About The Event
Come along to our monthly Community Day and join us in doing ecological restoration work in the Whau River Catchment. On the last Sunday of each month, we will have a new project for community members to come along and join in. This month, the first of our community ecological restoration days we will be spreading mulch on some of our new plantings in Craigavon Park in Green Bay. We had lots of mulch there before the floods, now it's all washed away so we need to spread more. Mulching has a very positive impact on plant establishment and plant health as well as soil health so your help would be greatly appreciated by us and the plants. All you need to bring is yourself and a water bottle. We provide tools, wheelbarrows and gloves but if you want to bring your own feel free. Kids are welcome as are dogs. Craigavon has a kid's playground right beside where we are working, it's an off-leash dog park and there is a public toilet in the park, there is also often a coffee cart beside the park on Portage Road. Come to the entrance off Connaught Street, there is plenty of parking on the park grounds and loads of street parking. We will meet at 10 am beside the much pile in the car park, do a quick meet and greet, then the obligatory H&S and do some mahi spreading mulch. Feel free to bring a picnic lunch and stay for a nice relaxed lunch. if you can't make this day we will have a new community event on the last Sunday of each month. The work is usually weeding or mulching over the warmer months and planting from May to October.
