About The Event

Come and join the Whau River Catchment Trust (WRCT) and Shah Satnam Ji Green S Welfare Force Volunteers doing a couple of hours of planting in the Tony Segedin Coastal Reserve at the end of Canal Road in Avondale. https://www.facebook.com/shahsatnamjigreenswelfareforcenewzealand/

We will be planting some larger-grade kanuka, karaka and cordylines in this coastal esplanade reserve which is presently a massive pile of weeds. We will join in with the Green Force S group who are skilled volunteers and aim to plant a few hundred plants. Green Force S will provide some kaifor lunch once the mahi is done.

The Tony Segedin Esplanade Reserve has nice outlooks across the Whau River so it's a great place to spend a Sunday morning making a difference and creating new native habitat areas and improving the coastal margins of the Whau River.

There are no toilet facilities onsite but there are in a nearby park that's about 8 mins walk.

The terrain is rough, and steep in places and if it's rained recently it can be muddy and slippery so please wear sturdy shoes and old clothes as you'll almost certainly get muddy!

We provide all the tools, gloves, plants, wheelbarrows etc. Juice, water, and biscuits will be provided.

It's ok to bring the kids but we are working beside an open stream so it's not suitable for very young kids.

The Whau River Catchment Trust works together for healthier streams and rivers through community participation and kaitiakitanga.
