About The Event
Get Ripped in our Green Gym. Volunteers will be guided in a gym style limber up before starting on this physically demanding conservation task with a big focus on functional movement and pumped up biodiversity outputs. PLUS, you will have heaps of FUN.
Volunteers will use mattocks and sharp spades to remove environmental weeds, or clear up litter. We'll also give you tips on how to best use the tools so you're not working yourself too hard. You don’t need a massive frame for this task but you do need endorphins to burn and a can-do attitude. Get in touch if you fancy having a go at this – 2 hours or so is enough for most people. Honestly you will love it. We can mix it up for your team so there is a range of tasks for you and a longer day if required.
By participating in this volunteering opportunity you are helping achieve our goal of ridding the Rosebank Peninsula of weeds like elephant grass – touted as the fastest growing plant in the world, capable of over 7cm of growth a day, we need to move fast to stop it swamping our native bush. Please note that we will not be restricted to working just within the Rosebank Peninsula.
Now who is ready to get ripped on our Green Gym? Win-win for your health and for the environment. You can volunteer with a group or yourself as an individual and we will work with you to best suit your availability. Please contact gary@whauriver.org.nz or 021 164 7818
