About The Event
For Weed and native plant mapping (Biodiversity Survey 2000-25), we need people to take photos of weeds and native plants in various reserves. The photos taken will be downloaded onto an app or the iNaturalist website. No experience is necessary. The app is easy to use and is informative. The more photos you take of the plants the more you learn. A great project for an environmental and conservation driven group or individual who needs practical experience of identifying plants.
The importance of collecting the data is to establish a baseline of the species abundance and richness within the Whau River Catchment and the data will be included in the Environmental Monitoring Programme for 2017 - 25.
The photos (data) taken of the plants will increase our knowledge of what is present and how we can implement plans to support the native plants in the future. We will be able to establish where the native plants within the catchment and where there are weed infestations.
