Community Support: WRCT Supporting Te Whau Pathway Project’s Bike Fun Day (12/04/23)

Rain or shine, nothing could dampen the spirits of our incredible community as they came together for a day filled with excitement, laughter, and, of course, bicycles!

Despite the wet forecast, our Bike Fun Day saw an outstanding turnout, with the sun even making a surprise appearance for an hour! The weather may have been unpredictable, but that didn't stop us from having a fantastic time. Archibald Park provided us with ample space to spread out our exhilarating activity stations along the pathway, stretching from one end of the park to the other. It was a cyclist's paradise!

Picture this: kids of all ages rocking different sizes and types of bikes with pure joy as they zoomed along Archibald Park. The Bike Fun Day, held during the Easter school holidays, was a hotspot for families seeking adventure. The contagious laughter and cheerful chatter filled the air, creating an atmosphere of pure delight.

As the day unfolded, the raindrops transformed into glimmering rainbows, reflecting the joy and unity radiating from every corner of Archibald Park. Children discovered new friendships, families embraced the thrill of adventure together, and our community embraced togetherness.

Community support: Organisations helping one another out #timetogocarfree

We couldn't have made this incredible event possible without the support and collaboration of other organisations. A heartfelt shoutout goes to Auckland Transport, DJ Mancho, EcoMatters Environment Trust, Kelston Boys' High School, The Whau River Catchment Trust, and Whau the People. Together, we transformed a rainy morning into an afternoon bursting with joy and excitement.

Auckland Transport played a vital role in ensuring the smooth flow of our cycling extravaganza, providing valuable guidance and support.

DJ Mancho's beats had everyone grooving to the rhythm, creating an energetic ambiance that fueled our participants' enthusiasm.

A marquee was set up by EcoMatters Environment Trust providing safety checks for all the different types of bikes on the day. There were small bicycles, large bicycles, and even strange bicycles where if you steered right, the bicycle actually went left. EcoMatters also provided a workshop where people could spend some time learning about basic bike maintenance and repair. Thank you for caring about the people's safety while also spreading awareness about sustainable biking practices.

The local Kelston Boys' High School basketball team also lent a helping hand in the event. The boys provided a free sausage sizzle and spread their youthful, bright spirits. An event with food, FREE food, always makes people happy.

The Whau River Catchment Trust supported in setting up and packing down while spreading awareness about sustainable biking practices and the importance of environmental conservation.

On the day, Arts and Craft was also available, adding creativity to the day, thanks to Whau the People.

Te Whau Pathway, our proud hosts, were instrumental in bringing the Bike Fun Day to life, enriching our community through their commitment to environmental stewardship. #timetogocarfree
